About Us

Creating Change That Remains

Our heart is to care for people and show them the love, hope and grace of Jesus Christ in the midst of poverty.

For nearly 40 years, The Horizon Project has partnered with and supported many different projects, organisations and initiatives across South Asia. Starting with supporting and building a network of churches, THP has grown into an organisation dedicated to aiding, financing, training, building, expanding and empowering other groups within South Asia regions that in turn bring much-needed support to the areas they are planted in.

Read Our Story

The Horizon Project started nearly 40 years ago by supporting one small church in South Asia.

Our work has expanded into nearly 20 churches across South Asia that actively seek to provide spiritual, medical, economic and educational support to the diverse communities they belong to.

In 2009 our partnership with Mamta Childcare Trust (MCCT) started and in December 2010 THP launched a new child sponsorship program aimed at providing sponsors for the 20 children of the Mamta Childcare Trust Home.

Throughout 2013 and 2014 THP raised funds to build a new home for the MCCT family, which was built on private, secure land situated on the outskirts of the Kathmandu valley. This home would help to provide for the consistency, safety and security every child deserves.

In 2010 we launched our Family Sponsorship Partnership Program across South Asia, supporting Pastors and their families so that they can continue to serve the Kingdom of God whilst being able to provide for and care for their family’s needs.

Throughout 2016 and 2017, The Horizon Project together with our funding partners raised over AU$60,000 to purchase a medical jeep.

The beginning of an incredible project, our jeep enables frontline teams to venture into remote regions of Nepal, providing medical care to communities who would otherwise suffer without treatment. These remote regions are often difficult to access; without proper infrastructure in place and travel can be very dangerous. The medical jeep now makes access possible for medical professionals to provide treatment to people in these remote areas. Many people have to hike for hours through mountainous terrain just to receive basic medical care. We partner with medical professionals like general practitioners, paediatricians, dentists, pharmacists, midwives and nurses who are passionate about providing assistance to people who have health concerns.

Our heart is to care for people and show them the love, hope and grace of Jesus Christ in the midst of poverty.

Since 2018, we have partnered with Australian supporters and Generocity Church Kathmandu to raise funds for the construction of a Multipurpose Community Hub in Kathmandu. This Hub will not only be a great facility for worship services, but it will also provide a secure venue for training workshops on human trafficking and how to stay safe. In addition, the Hub will become a homework centre for local children and a space for the operation of vital community-based programs.

Our Vision

The Horizon Project’s vision consists of four pillars that define our cause and influence our response. This vision explains the motivation behind our pillars. The outworking of our vision statement is fluid, as projects and activities continue to meet the changing needs of the communities and people we serve. Interconnection

We believe The Horizon Project can facilitate the coming together of like-minded churches and individuals who have a united heart, are committed to freeing those wrongly oppressed, imprisoned in poverty and without Christ.

We seek to create connections between individuals and churches in the west with individuals and churches in the developing world via our network throughout Australia and South Asia.

Equipping and Empowering

We believe in resourcing community development projects and church planting activities that genuinely reflect the needs of local communities, empowering and releasing a generation to discover the freedom, love, peace and grace of Jesus Christ.

– We seek to create educational opportunities and housing for women, children and men facing exploitation, abuse and poverty.

– We seek to create opportunities for church plants to take, grow and multiply.

Advocacy

We believe that through the faithfulness and generosity of everyday people who live with passion and integrity we will give a voice to those facing human trafficking, child labor and poverty contributing to setting them free by removing the chains of oppression and spreading the liberty of the Gospel.

– We seek to create a voice for the voiceless, raising awareness of issues around human trafficking, poverty, oppression and unreached people groups.

– We aim to generate funds and promote behaviors that will help eradicate human trafficking, child labor, poverty and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Change That Remains

We believe God’s favor and blessing is on His Church. We believe when we cry out, He answers us. We believe God will use His Church to create change that remains.

– We seek to establish and support sustainable programs that reflect the needs, culture and desires of the local communities.

The Horizon Project Update – 14 May 2021

There is some great excitement in Nepal!

Our Projects

NEPAL ADVENTURE TRIPS

Our trips to Nepal are full of fun and adventure; giving volunteers the opportunity to be involved in a variety of programs like medical camps in remote regions, assist in the construction of new building projects, visiting our new church partnership campuses and of course enjoying the culture with some tourist activities.

Child Sponsorships

At THP we believe that every child is unique; that every child should be loved and cared for and be given every opportunity to thrive and grow into the person God created them to be. Our child sponsorship partnerships ensure that all children in our sponsorship programs receive 100% of all donations towards their well-being and education.

Academic Sponsorship

An Academic Scholarship Program has been created to allow the children from our welfare children’s home to continue onto tertiary education, providing a pathway for educated, influential young Christians to rise up in Nepal. This is currently being established in partnership with local Australian Schools.

Medical Jeep

The beginning of an incredible project, our jeep enables frontline teams to venture into remote regions of Nepal, providing medical care to communities who would otherwise suffer without treatment. These remote regions are often difficult to access; without proper infrastructure in place and travel can be very dangerous. The medical jeep now makes access possible for medical professionals to provide treatment to people in these remote areas.

Family Sponsorship

Our Family Sponsorship partnerships enable our Pastors to be leading their church on the ground whilst providing for the physical needs of their family; ensuring their own family is well cared for and educated so they can also influence their community.

Church Planting in South Asia

Since the 1980’s The Horizon Project has been supporting churches in South Asia, beginning with one small church many years ago our work has expanded into more then 14 churches in five different locations that actively seek to provide spiritual, medical, economic and educational support to the diverse communities they belong to. While there is no doubt that South Asia has seen economic growth in recent years there is unfortunately another often hidden side to the story where poverty, corruption and abuse are all too common. At THP we believe in showing people grace and offering them hope so that they may experience a relationship with Jesus Christ and reach their full potential in life. We aim to empower and enable people to live out Gods plan and purpose for their life.

Testimonials

Jim & Anne Buchanan

May 2021

It has been our delight to be Ramesh’s sponsor for the last 10 years. In 2018 we travelled to Nepal to meet Ramesh and see first hand the incredible work by MCCT and the Horizon Project that is transforming the lives of the most needy children in Nepal. These children are raised to be world changers with vision, faith and a heart to serve.

When we were there I asked Mishael how he chooses which child to accept when there is a vacancy. He replied; “It’s easy, we choose the child with the greatest need!” Being a sponsor partner with the Horizon Project means I get to be a part of changing a childs present and future despite their past. Ramesh is now studying Hotel Management at Uni. We will always ‘sponsor’ him in whatever way he needs, whether it be financial, encouragement, prayer or just cheering him on in life because in our hearts he has become family. For us, the joy of being part of his story is the best part of being a sponsor and would recommend it in a heart beat!
